What to Know Before You Apply
This program is an advanced continuing education training designed to deepen and refine the skills of professionals who are already working with individuals experiencing stress or trauma.
Participants explore Somatic Experiencing® principles and practices in order to enhance their existing work, develop greater sensitivity to nervous system processes, and integrate body-based approaches within their current professional scope.
This is a continuing education certificate program intended to support professional development. It is not designed as an entry point into a new profession or as a stand-alone qualification for practice.
To be considered for admission, applicants must be professionals with an active practice so that the material can be meaningfully integrated and developed throughout the course of the program. Exceptions may be granted to graduate students participating in supervised clinical or professional training programs. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This training is intended for individuals who already hold a professional role involving client care, health, or support services.
Professionals who may qualify include:
- Mental Health Professionals: psychologists, psychiatrists, psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, social workers, counsellors, marriage and family therapists, expressive arts therapists, etc.
- Medical and Alternative Medicine Professionals: medical doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, physical therapists, chiropractors, emergency medical workers, surgeons, obstetricians, midwives, acupuncturists, naturopathic doctors, etc.
- Bodyworkers: massage therapists, Rolfers®, Craniosacral and Polarity therapists, Feldenkrais practitioners, yoga therapists, etc.
- Others: coaches, first responders, crisis centre staff, educators, mediators, clergy, chaplains, etc.
- If an applicant does not meet these requirements but is enrolled in a master’s degree program that will provide licensure by the end of the second year of training and a client base to work with through practicum, exceptions may be made.
This program is not suitable for those seeking personal growth only, or for those without an existing professional context in which to responsibly apply the material.
Participation in this training does not ensure that all Somatic Experiencing® methods will be appropriate for inclusion in a participant’s work. Participants are responsible for operating within their professional scope of practice and for complying with applicable provincial and federal laws.
By registering for the Beginning I module, your place in the Beginning II module is secured.
